His tone was flat and indifferent. "You should stop trying to break other people up."

Wen Jin stopped in her tracks, pausing for a moment before turning her head back to look at Sheng Yang. "That seems to have nothing to do with you."

Sheng Yang raised an eyebrow. "Just giving you some well-intentioned advice. Don't keep doing such despicable things."

The recent weather was poor, always overcast and gloomy.

It seemed to cast a shadow over Sheng Yang's face as well.

With a certain distance between them, Wen Jin lowered her gaze and smiled self-deprecatingly.

Then she looked back at Sheng Yang. "What despicable thing have I done? Are you trying to talk about Wen You—"

Trying to say that she had intruded into the relationship between him and Wen You?

Yet Sheng Yang seemed to have forgotten.

When she was with him, Wen You had not even appeared yet.

Hearing Wen You's name brought up so abruptly, however, made Sheng Yang's expression turn cold.

He let out a scoff. "Still so fond of digging up the past? Comparing yourself to Wen You, aren't you overestimating yourself a bit?"

Wen Jin gave him a deep, long look.

Then she turned and walked away.

Since in Sheng Yang's eyes, their three years together were so easily dismissed as mere ancient history.

What else was there for her to say to him?

It was all pointless now.

-

On her way back, Wen Jin felt a persistent sense of restlessness in her heart.

She simply opened her Moments feed, hoping to find some distraction.

Instead, she happened to see a recruitment advertisement posted by Zheng Jing.

It was for a company in Yangcheng, which happened to match Wen Jin's major.

After hesitating for a brief moment, she tapped open Zheng Jing's chat box.

They had added each other as WeChat friends just last night.

Zheng Jing replied very quickly. "What's wrong? Are you interested in this?"

Wen Jin typed back, "I wanted to see if there might be an opportunity."

"This is a friend's company. I'll give you his email address, and you can send your resume directly to him."

After sending this message, Zheng Jing followed up with an email address and no further replies.

Wen Jin stared at that email address and zoned out for a moment.

-

Shortly after, she sent her resume straight over.

Regardless of anything else, it was at least worth a try.

The old master moved quickly, directly having Zhou Yi Cheng add Wen Jin on WeChat.

As soon as the friend request was accepted, the other party sent a very polite message.

[Miss Wen, I am very sorry, but I already have a girlfriend. This matter was arranged entirely by my family, and I apologize for wasting your time.]

Looking at the message, Wen Jin clearly breathed a sigh of relief.

She replied:

[As it happens, I don't have any thoughts in that direction at the moment either.]

[Then shall we still have lunch together tomorrow noon? That way we can report back to our families, and I will handle the rest so it won't cause Miss Wen any trouble.]

Zhou Yi Cheng's attitude was very amicable, and Wen Jin directly settled the time and place with him for the next day.

It was a Chinese restaurant in the downtown area, known for its high level of privacy.

When Wen Jin arrived, Zhou Yi Cheng was already there.

He was a gentle and refined-looking man, wearing glasses and exuding a scholarly aura.

Because they had discussed the situation beforehand, the meeting was not particularly awkward.

Furthermore, Zhou Yi Cheng was currently in the midst of a career transition into civil engineering, so he and Wen Jin found plenty of common ground to chat about.

The atmosphere between them gradually grew relaxed.

Zhou Yi Cheng mentioned that his girlfriend was currently doing a postdoc related to civil engineering at University A.

Upon learning that she was an alumna of the same university as Wen Jin, he immediately recommended his girlfriend's contact to her, prompting them to add each other as friends.

Zhou Yi Cheng sighed in wonder, "I always thought there were very few female students in civil engineering, but I didn't expect there to be so many."

Wen Jin said, "Studying civil engineering is actually outdated now; everyone prefers artificial intelligence instead."

Zhou Yi Cheng raised an eyebrow. "No matter what field of knowledge it is, it is never truly outdated."

Wen Jin smiled along. "That's true."

The atmosphere between them was exceptionally harmonious, but to outside observers, it looked somewhat different.

Just as Sheng Yang stepped through the restaurant doors, he saw Wen Jin smiling brightly, chatting animatedly with Zhou Yi Cheng.

His gaze narrowed slightly, and the corners of his lips curled into a mocking arc.

Zhao Yi Mo followed his line of sight.

Upon clearly recognizing Wen Jin's face, he clicked his tongue. "She really doesn't have a single blank period. Her seamless transitions are truly impressive."

Only then did Sheng Yang withdraw his gaze. "If you don't know how to speak, keep your mouth shut."

Zhao Yi Mo retorted, "I'm just trying to stick up for you. How long has it been, and Wen Jin is already out looking for another man?"

-

"It just goes to show that a woman like her is truly hopeless."

Wen Jin and Zhou Yi Cheng's chat was very pleasant, and she could consider him an acquaintance she got along well with.

They didn't bid farewell to each other until Zhou Yi Cheng's girlfriend arrived.

Wen Jin stood up and headed to the restroom.

As soon as she came out, someone grabbed her waist and pulled her forcefully into the utility room near the stairwell.

Wen Jin was startled out of her wits, but someone immediately covered her mouth with their hand.

Sheng Yang's voice sounded right beside her ear. "You actually came to see him."

Her body tense, Wen Jin struggled and pushed away the hand covering her mouth.

"Why shouldn't I come?"

Sheng Yang's other hand was still pinching Wen Jin's waist. He used a great deal of force, like an inescapable cage.

It pinched Wen Jin hard enough to cause a dull ache.

With her back turned to Sheng Yang, she could not see his face.

She could only feel Sheng Yang's heavy heartbeat and the scorching temperature radiating from his body.

Wen Jin bit her lip. "What on earth do you want?"

The hot breath from Sheng Yang's words sprayed directly onto Wen Jin's ear, making it tingle with a light itch.

He said, "I was just wondering, does doing this count as a seamless transition?"

"However," he paused, "is one Ning Lang not enough, you have to bring in a Zhou Yi Cheng as well?"

Wen Jin closed her eyes. "You're overthinking it. Zhou Yi Cheng and I are not what you think."

"And what about Ning Lang?" Sheng Yang asked again.

Driven past the limit of her patience, Wen Jin articulated each word clearly, "Sheng Yang, don't assume everyone is just like you!"

Clearly, he was the one who had deceived her feelings.

Yet he insisted on phrasing it as though Wen Jin had wronged him immensely.

Gathering her strength, Wen Jin broke free from Sheng Yang's confinement.

She turned around to look at him, mimicking his tone of voice.

Every single word deliberate, she asked: "And what about you?"

"While you're engaged to Wen You, you still want to keep tangling with me?"

"How many do you need before you're satisfied?"
