Chapter 36: She Has No Time to Answer Your Call
Wen Jin had known for a long time that she was not the biological daughter of Wen Chaosheng and his wife. This was because Jiang Yuan had secretly sought her out several times. Jiang Yuan wanted to take her away and had even explained her own unavoidable circumstances, but to Wen Jin, it all felt absurd. Yet, the irrefutable DNA test results told her that everything was true. Even so, she remained resistant toward Jiang Yuan.
However, now, in order to hide from Sheng Yang, she found herself forced to seek Jiang Yuan's help. In a certain sense, she and Sheng Yang were the same kind of people—equally calculating, equally devoid of sincerity. No one but her knew about Jiang Yuan; she, too, kept her own secrets.
Qiao Qiao returned after half an hour, followed by Ning Lang. Qiao Qiao explained, "I ran into him when I was calling my mother to tell her about your situation, and he insisted on coming to see you."
Ning Lang frowned. "I remember you were full of life when I saw you at noon."
Wen Jin coughed lightly. "I had a little accident."
"It seems your luck hasn't been great lately," Ning Lang remarked. "How about going to a temple to pray?"
Seeing that Wen Jin and Ning Lang were familiar with each other, Qiao Qiao said, "Ning Lang, could you help me look after Xiao Jin here? I have an urgent matter at the office and really must go."
"It would be my pleasure."
As soon as Qiao Qiao left, Wen Jin said, "You can go about your business; I'll be fine on my own."
Having run into Ning Lang at the hospital yesterday as well, Wen Jin was not naive enough to think it was a coincidence. Sure enough, Ning Lang said, "An elder in my family had a fall and is currently hospitalized. I didn't expect to run into you here again. It seems our paths are destined to cross in hospitals."
Wen Jin still needed to stay for an IV drip, and no matter what she said, Ning Lang refused to leave, insisting on staying until she finished. Ultimately, Wen Jin had no choice but to agree.
Once the final treatment concluded, Sheng Yang walked out of the treatment room. Wen You was waiting outside for him. "Yin Cheng says your recovery is going very well."
Sheng Yang took his phone from his assistant and suddenly asked, "Were there any calls?"
"No," Wen You replied smoothly. "Only Zhao Yimo sent a message in the group asking us to go to Wenshan Villa."
Sheng Yang grunted in acknowledgment and headed forward.
Upon arriving at Wenshan Villa, Zhao Yimo and the others were already waiting. Catching sight of Sheng Yang, Zhao Yimo raised an eyebrow. "How is it that you've been so free lately? Weren't you always at the office before?"
Someone nearby immediately chimed in, "Sheng Yang is a man about to get married; of course, he has to make time to spend with his wife. Do you think he's like you?"
Zhao Yimo laughed and retorted before turning to Sheng Yang with a teasing tone. "President Sheng, how about you give me that plot of land in the north of the city for the sake of our brotherhood?"
This group of people, while appearing to do nothing but eat, drink, and play, were all shrewd to the bone. Everyone wanted to scrape some benefits for their own families.
Sheng Yang glanced at him, his voice flat. "The bidding registration is over there."
"You really won't give your brother any face?" Zhao Yimo asked.
Sheng Yang countered, "Is your face worth five billion?"
Naturally, it was not. Zhao Yimo rubbed his nose and said no more.
Someone immediately teased him, "What’s wrong? Did that hurt your fragile little heart?"
"Get lost. I'm just allergic to pollen," Zhao Yimo grumbled. "That place, Yayuan, is really not for me; there are too many flowers and plants. Eighty million—whoever wants it can have it."
Sheng Yang suddenly paused. He lifted his gaze to look at Zhao Yimo. "Yayuan?"
"Yeah," Zhao Yimo clicked his tongue. "The hallways there are full of flowers. I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone with a pollen allergy."
Sheng Yang's expression suddenly turned cold, his previous air of indifference vanishing.
It was already evening when Wen Jin received a call from Sheng Yang. The moment she saw his name, she hung up. Ning Lang, who had just returned from buying food, raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," Wen Jin replied, just as the phone rang again.
Ning Lang reached over, smiling. "It looks like you don't really want to answer Sheng Yang's call. Shall I help you? Besides, the doctor advised that you shouldn't get too agitated right now."
He finished setting the food container down for Wen Jin before turning away with the phone. The moment he answered, Sheng Yang's cold, deep voice came through: "Where are you?"
Ning Lang maintained his smile, pausing before speaking. "With me."
Sheng Yang stood at the entrance of Wenshan Villa, his aura seemingly freezing over, carrying a piercing chill. Dark currents surged in the depths of his eyes, revealing no emotion. His thin lips parted to utter two words: "Ning Lang."
Ning Lang asked with a smile, "Is there something you need from little Wen Jin? She's not free to take your call right now."
Sheng Yang's voice sank. "What did you do to her?"
"That is not for you to worry about. It's a secret between her and me." Ning Lang took a few steps forward with the phone before speaking slowly, "Since you have nothing else to say, could you stop bothering us? She just said she doesn't want to see you, and she even asked me to answer her phone for her."
Anyone could hear the provocation in Ning Lang's words. Sheng Yang's breathing grew heavy, and his tone sharpened: "Ning Lang, don't covet what isn't yours."
"Is that so?"
After saying this, Ning Lang hung up the phone. He returned to Wen Jin's side, handing her the phone with a smile, looking quite pleased with himself. Wen Jin looked at him, wanting to say something but hesitating.
"What's wrong?" Ning Lang asked.
Wen Jin shook her head, wanting to say it was nothing, but after holding it in for a moment, she said honestly, "You were acting quite 'green tea' just now."
"Was I?" Ning Lang stroked his chin, unbothered. "But as long as it makes Sheng Yang unhappy, isn't that enough?"
At the mention of Sheng Yang, the smile on Wen Jin's face faded. She looked at the IV needle in the back of her hand and suddenly lost her appetite.
It was eight o'clock in the evening by the time Wen Jin was allowed to go home. Because of her unique constitution and the fact that she had suffered an anaphylactic shock, she would have to return the next day. Ning Lang dropped her off at the building where Qiao Qiao lived and considerately opened the door for her. "Shall I come pick you up tomorrow?"
Before Wen Jin could answer, she saw a figure standing not far away, obscured by the streetlights. It wasn't until the person walked toward them that she saw clearly. It was Sheng Yang.
Sheng Yang stared down at Wen Jin, noting how Ning Lang was still holding her arm, looking intimate. Walking up slowly, Sheng Yang stared straight at her. "It seems you didn't remember a single word I told you."
Wen Jin did not avoid his gaze. She pressed her lips together, remembering what Wen You had said when she was about to faint at Yayuan. She felt nothing but disgust.
Stepping forward, she looked at Sheng Yang and said word by word, "I didn't remember what I said either. Sheng Yang, do you know how annoying you are?"
"I really don't want to see you anymore, but why do you keep appearing in front of me?" Wen Jin shook her head. "It wasn't like this before, was it?"
