Chapter 32: Love-Struck Fools Meet Their Just Deserts
"I'm telling you, Sheng Yang is your past mistake!" Qiaoqiao muttered, cursing Sheng Yang from head to toe.
Wen Jin supported her carefully, terrified she might trip. After a great deal of effort, she finally managed to get Qiaoqiao into the car, only to realize that Qiaoqiao had left her phone at the bar. With no other choice, Wen Jin had to return to the bar to retrieve it.
However, just as she stepped out with the phone, she ran straight into Sheng Yang. He was leaning against the car, his tea-colored eyes blending into the night, looking exceptionally profound. He stared at Wen Jin with a blank expression. Wen Jin put the phone away and, ignoring his existence entirely, continued walking toward Qiaoqiao’s car.
"Wen Jin." A slow, heavy voice sounded from behind. Sheng Yang spoke, enunciating every word: "Aren't you going to give me an explanation?"
Wen Jin paused and turned to look at him, answering calmly, "What kind of explanation do you want?"
Her composure only deepened the darkness in Sheng Yang’s eyes. He looked toward the bar, his tone unreadable: "You know I hate filth."
"I don’t know how many times you’ve had experiences like this in private, but right now, I need to know the state of your health."
The subtext was clear: he was worried that Wen Jin’s promiscuity might have left her with some sort of venereal disease.
It took a moment for the implication to sink in. Wen Jin laughed in cold fury. "Sheng Yang, when you say things like that, I think you should be the one showing me a medical report."
It was obvious that he was the one who lived a debauched life. Every time he pretended to have amnesia, he was constantly changing female companions.
The bar lights flickered, illuminating the expression on Wen Jin’s face with startling clarity. She looked at him and said, "But you’ve reminded me; I really should go for a check-up."
She turned to leave, but after two steps, she stopped. Her fingernails dug deep into her palms, the only way to control her current emotions, though her breathing grew heavy. "Actually, you’re quite cheap, and your technique isn't very good either."
It was as good as calling him a gigolo.
As expected, Sheng Yang’s face turned black instantly. Wen Jin paid him no mind; she walked to Qiaoqiao’s car, climbed into the driver’s seat, and slammed her foot on the accelerator. She hadn't been drinking, but even after driving for a distance, the suffocating resentment in her heart did not dissipate.
She had never imagined that Sheng Yang would think of her in such a way. Those harsh, deeply slanderous words had slipped so easily from his lips. Wen Jin felt more like a joke; her life from eighteen to now felt like one complete, utter joke.
Just then, the airline called; her original flight back to Yangcheng had been rescheduled. Wen Jin sat in the car, hesitating for a moment, before deciding to move her departure forward by a day. Only after confirming the change did she take Qiaoqiao home.
-
The next morning, when Qiaoqiao woke up, her head was still spinning. She hugged Wen Jin, saying, "Babe, thank goodness you were there to bring me home."
Wen Jin patted her arm. "I’m going to the hospital in a bit."
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
"No," Wen Jin said. "I’m just going for a check-up. After all, I was with Sheng Yang for such a long time."
She didn't finish the sentence, but Qiaoqiao understood immediately. Giving her a thumbs-up, Qiaoqiao said sincerely, "How did you manage to shed that damn 'love-struck brain' in just one night?"
Wen Jin whispered, "I never had one to begin with."
It was just that she had believed Sheng Yang was sincere toward her, so she had offered her own sincerity in return. Now, she was paying the price.
In the end, Qiaoqiao couldn't accompany Wen Jin to the hospital; she received an urgent work call and had to rush off to handle it. Wen Jin went for a full examination on her own. She didn't really think she had any illness, but she was truly disgusted by what Sheng Yang had said.
However, she didn't expect to encounter an accident while waiting for the results. When she suddenly saw Wen Tao, Wen Jin was slow to react. She had only seen him once before, when she went to look for him. Yet, only two or three days had passed, and Wen Tao had lost a significant amount of weight.
As soon as Wen Tao saw her, his eyes turned bloodshot. Trembling, he charged toward her, shouting, "You daughter of a murderer!"
Wen Jin quickly dodged to the side, assuming Wen Tao was enraged because of the reopened investigation into the fight between Wen Chaosheng and him. She had asked Song Heng about it, knowing that this matter could lead to Wen Tao being fired or even facing criminal charges.
Wen Jin looked at him, her brow furrowed slightly, her voice indifferent: "You were the one who provoked and attacked first, and you kept slandering my father. I only requested a thorough investigation."
But Wen Tao wouldn't listen. He stared at Wen Jin with venomous resentment, cursing, "It’s all your fault! All your fault and your father’s! If it weren't for you, how could I have gotten sick?"
Before Wen Jin could register what he meant, Wen Tao snatched a medicine bottle from a nearby nurse and hurled it at her!
Suddenly, someone pulled her arm back, and the bottle shattered at her feet. Wen Jin was pulled into a warm embrace. Ning Lang stood in front of her, frowning at Wen Tao. "What is going on here?"
As his voice faded, another voice rang out. "What are you doing?"
Sheng Yang approached from the other side, followed by Wen You. His gaze, however, remained fixed on Wen Jin and Ning Lang.
Looking at the broken glass on the floor, Wen Jin felt a lingering fear. She calmed herself, lifted her eyes, and looked at Wen You. "I would also like an explanation from you. Is bullying others a hereditary trait in the Wen family?"
