Si Tang cast a cold glance back at her agent. She herself conducted her affairs with integrity, but Su Yuejin actually went as far as staging a suicide attempt. It was simply asking for trouble.

Su Yuejin sat curled up on a European-style large bed, dressed in a pristine white gown. When her eyes met Gu Yubai’s, red-rimmed and tearful, she rushed over, her frail body suddenly crashing into the man’s embrace.

“Yubai, is that you? I was so scared... I almost didn’t get to see you,” she choked out softly.

The man did not push her away; instead, he patted her shoulder reassuringly, his brows knitted with clear concern.

“It’s over now,” Gu Yubai said in a low, steady voice.

Si Tang took in the scene completely. Recalling the kiss in the car, she felt an intense sting of irony. The dim scene in the car overlapped with Gu Yubai’s present back view, making her stomach churn, almost causing her to retch... Men truly were no good!

Steeling herself, Si Tang intended to slip away quietly, but Su Yuejin caught sight of her retreating figure not far off.

With a sharp, shrill cry, the woman accused, “Why is she here? It’s Si Tang who’s trying to kill me!”

Su Yuejin clung tighter to Gu Yubai’s waist, her body shaking violently, tears streaming down her face in a pitiful display.

“Yes, I’m not only here, I’m here thanks to you—to manage your public relations,” Si Tang said slowly, crossing her arms and turning around deliberately.

“Get out! Just get out!” Su Yuejin bit her lower lip until it bled, covering her ears as she screamed and cursed.

Si Tang watched her breakdown with cold eyes, noting the heavy traces of performance in Su Yuejin’s act. But since Gu Yubai was blind, everyone tacitly played along.

The assistant dared not even breathe, sensing the situation was unfavorable, and quickly found an excuse to leave.

Gu Yubai held Su Yuejin’s struggling wrist to calm her. After hesitating, he finally looked toward Si Tang, pondering briefly before starting to usher her out: “She’s not in a good state right now. Wait for me outside.”

“Who said I’m waiting for you?”

If Gu Yubai hadn’t dragged her here, she wouldn’t have bothered with this disgusting scene.

“Our contract is over. I’ll have my lawyer discuss the details with you,” Si Tang said firmly, then left without looking back.

The woman’s resolute figure grew smaller in the distance. Gu Yubai’s Adam’s apple moved slightly; his eyes narrowed as he appeared lost in thought.

Warm tears from Su Yuejin fell onto his neck, forcing Gu Yubai to snap back to reality, his vision momentarily blurred.

He heard Su Yuejin’s tearful plea: “Yubai, don’t let outsiders disturb us anymore.”

Ignoring the strange feeling inside, Gu Yubai quietly withdrew from Su Yuejin’s grasp, remaining silent.

Inside the quiet elevator, Si Tang was alone. Her gaze was unfocused, staring straight ahead, feeling a rare pang of heartache.

It seemed... she wasn’t completely indifferent after all.

She had thought herself invincible.

Exiting the elevator, Tan Yin suddenly called. Si Tang took a deep breath and answered.

“Tang Tang, Su Yuejin didn’t die, right?”

The incident had caused quite a stir; it was normal for Tan Yin to hear about it.

The blunt question, paired with her serious tone, made Si Tang burst out laughing, feeling an unexpected lightness.

Tan Yin, her closest friend and confidante, knew all too well about Si Tang’s painful past.

That was why she had always disliked Gu Yubai and Su Yuejin.

“She didn’t die,” Si Tang clicked her tongue. “But I lost money for the company. I have to pay damages for breaking the contract with Gu Yubai.”

“Who cares?” Tan Yin didn’t take it seriously. “Honestly, you shouldn’t have given that scumbag the time of day. Next time I see him, I’m spitting in his face!”

“Yin Yin, polite society,” Si Tang laughed again, the gloom lifting completely.

They chatted a while longer before Si Tang finally cast all unpleasantness aside.

“By the way, Meng Linchuan’s film ‘Returning to the Pool’ wrapped filming. There’s a celebration the day after tomorrow. You should come,” Tan Yin changed the subject cautiously. “He specifically asked me to invite you.”

Hearing that name, Si Tang’s smile faded a little. It reminded her she hadn’t seen Meng Linchuan in half a year, yet his fame was impossible to ignore.

Just last month, he attended the Golden Flower Awards, dressed in an elegant black tailcoat and a sharp tie.

Under the white spotlight, his perfect features were softened.

He deservedly won Best Actor and, in his acceptance speech, thanked a special someone.

The video clip went viral online, sparking widespread speculation that Best Actor Meng Linchuan was in love.

Though Si Tang deliberately avoided following the gossip, she couldn’t help overhearing parts of the conversation around her.

“If you don’t want to go, I’ll just push you. Don’t feel guilty about it,” Tan Yin said after a long silence on the other end.

Si Tang hummed softly. “No, I’m going.”

That film was also a project her company had invested in. Riding on Meng Linchuan’s star power, it was already a hit before release.

Having just returned to the country, she ought to make more appearances in the capital’s circles.

Back home, Si Tang received several messages from Si Hongzhou analyzing the current situation with commanding insight, followed by some advice.

“Judging by tonight’s dinner, Yubai might overlook your past recklessness.”

“Our family business still depends on him, so don’t go against him or make him angry.”

“If you can remarry, that would be best.”

Si Tang stared at the screen, her fingers tightening slowly.

Ridiculous!

She replied with a single line: “Seems you have strong opinions. Then you go remarry him.”

Then, quick as a flash, she blocked him without a second thought.

Soon enough, the day after tomorrow arrived. Tan Yin came to the company and immediately pushed Si Tang in front of the mirror, right beside her proud styling team.

“Bring out your secret weapons. Let’s turn our Tang Tang into an absolute beauty—so stunning that everyone adores her, flowers bloom at her presence, and cars break down just by seeing her!”

“Cars break down? Are you sure that’s a compliment?” Si Tang tilted her head, helpless.

Her gay makeup artist grinned. “Tang Jie, even without makeup, you’re a beauty. Your skin is more radiant than many stars.”

Si Tang had a classic oval face. She’d slimmed down a bit, and the foreign climate, with little sunshine but nurturing soil, had whitened and softened her complexion over the years.

Her bright, clear eyes and bare lips framed by chestnut waves of hair resembling seaweed softened her once sharp features into a powerful yet cold elegance.

The stylist tied her hair into a bun, adorning her graceful neck with a delicate diamond necklace. She wore a strapless short dress, revealing snow-white, slender legs.

By the time Tan Yin and Si Tang arrived, most people were already there.

This was Si Tang’s first time representing her company at a banquet, and her appearance immediately drew attention.
