Chapter Thirty-Three: Venting

The surrounding cultivators huddled together, whispering among themselves like a flock of chirping sparrows.
“Isn’t that Gu Liuyun? I heard that last time he—”
“Shh, keep your voice down! If he hears you, we’re finished!”
“Who’s that beauty beside him? She’s gorgeous!”
All sorts of rumors reached Gu Liuyun’s ears, but he paid them no attention. A faint smile played at the corners of his lips, as though everything lay within his grasp.
Elsewhere, Elder Zhao had originally planned to join forces with several minor sects to deal with Gu Liuyun. He had not expected that, after the previous incident, those spineless opportunists would all switch sides and begin currying favor with Gu Liuyun instead.
He could only watch helplessly as the heads of the minor sects who had once fawned over him now crowded around Gu Liuyun like poodles, addressing him as “Senior Gu” at every turn. He was so furious that smoke seemed ready to pour from all seven orifices, and his face turned livid.
Seeing this, the surrounding cultivators exchanged glances and began whispering among themselves.
“Elder Zhao really picked a fight with the wrong person!”
“Fortunes turn like the wheel of fate. This year, it’s the Gu family’s turn to shine!”
Just then, a familiar figure entered Gu Liuyun’s line of sight. Cultivator Qian was staring fixedly at him, a greedy smile curling across his lips.
Cultivator Qian’s triangular eyes gleamed like those of a starving wolf that had spotted a fat sheep. The avarice in them nearly leapt from their sockets.
He licked his cracked lips, stretching them into a sinister grin, as though he had just laid eyes on some priceless treasure.
Then he shot a meaningful glance at several fierce-looking rogue cultivators behind him. They immediately understood. Cracking their knuckles, they advanced toward Gu Liuyun with vicious grins, looking exactly like a band of highwaymen preparing to rob someone.
“That old bastard is trying to cause trouble again!” Chen Jiaojiao muttered unhappily, her brows furrowing.
She had witnessed Gu Liuyun’s strength with her own eyes. In her view, these nobodies were practically throwing themselves to their deaths.
A cold smile tugged at Gu Liuyun’s lips. The petty schemes of those underlings were, to him, no different from children playing house—utterly harmless.
He tightened his grip around Chen Jiaojiao’s delicate hand, feeling the warmth of her palm. An invisible pressure spread between them, and the air around them seemed to freeze. The tension instantly reached its peak.
At Cultivator Qian’s command, the rogue cultivators charged at Gu Liuyun as though injected with stimulants, shouting furiously as they swung their magical weapons with great force. To Gu Liuyun, however, their movements were no faster than a slow-motion replay.
He moved.
His figure blurred like a ghost, effortlessly slipping past their chaotic attacks.
Then his fingertips twitched, and streaks of spiritual power transformed into invisible blades, striking the rogue cultivators precisely in their vital points.
Several muffled thuds rang out. Those arrogant rogue cultivators were sent sprawling in all directions like kites with severed strings, their cries of pain rising one after another.
Cultivator Qian’s expression changed dramatically. The smile froze on his face, and he made a strange croaking sound like a duck being strangled. He had never imagined that Gu Liuyun could be so powerful—an invincible being no different from a god.

He no longer dared entertain the slightest greedy thought. All he wanted was to flee this place as quickly as possible.
Unfortunately, it was already too late.
Gu Liuyun reached out and seized the air. A strand of spiritual energy transformed into an invisible chain, instantly binding Cultivator Qian from head to toe.
Cultivator Qian hung suspended in midair like a dumpling, his face flushed crimson. The surrounding cultivators let out a collective gasp, as though they were watching a thrilling performance.
“My heavens, Cultivator Qian is in such a miserable state!”
“It seems we’d better not provoke Gu Liuyun in the future!”
“That man is a true powerhouse. We absolutely cannot afford to offend him!”
Listening to the discussion around him, Gu Liuyun’s lips curved upward slightly. A powerful sense of accomplishment surged through his heart.
He basked in the awe-filled gazes of the crowd, secretly savoring his triumph.
“You…” Chen Jiaojiao murmured, her beautiful eyes shifting as she gazed at Gu Liuyun’s profile, seemingly wanting to speak but hesitating.
After watching Gu Liuyun secure another effortless victory, countless little stars seemed to sparkle in her eyes. Her admiration for him practically overflowed.
She leaned against Gu Liuyun like a dependent little bird, her body trembling faintly like a startled fawn, though a trace of excitement flickered beneath her fear.
Taking advantage of the moment, Gu Liuyun slipped an arm around her waist. Feeling the softness of her body against him, an indescribable tenderness welled up in his heart.
This girl was unbelievably soft.
Just as the two of them were growing lost in each other, a chilling gaze fixed itself upon them from within the crowd.
Miss Sun saw the man she adored, Cultivator Qian, beaten into a swollen mess. Her hatred for Gu Liuyun nearly became tangible. She was like a venomous snake hiding in a dark corner, waiting for the perfect moment to deliver a fatal strike.
Quietly, she drew a jade pendant from her sleeve. It emitted an eerie glow, and an invisible wave of energy began spreading through the air.
Chen Jiaojiao bore the brunt of it. Her vision suddenly went dark, and her head grew heavy while her feet felt unsteady, as though she had drunk counterfeit liquor.
Her gaze gradually became unfocused. Everything around her blurred, a buzzing filled her ears, and even the air seemed to grow heavy. In an instant, the surroundings were shrouded in a dangerous atmosphere, like the scene of a horror film.

Gu Liuyun noticed that something was wrong with Chen Jiaojiao, and his expression instantly darkened. Rage shot straight to the crown of his head. Like a furious lion, he fixed the crowd with a blade-sharp gaze and immediately locked onto Miss Sun.
That little witch had actually dared to scheme right in front of him. She was clearly tired of living!
“Looking for death!”
Gu Liuyun’s furious shout rolled out like thunder, leaving everyone nearby with ringing ears.
Dangerous light flickered in his eyes as the pressure of an Immortal Venerable burst forth, instantly shattering the illusion spell Miss Sun had cast.
Then his figure flashed. Like a bolt of lightning, he shot straight toward Miss Sun, moving so quickly that only afterimages remained in his wake.
When Miss Sun saw the murderous intent in Gu Liuyun’s eyes, all color drained from her face. She looked as though she had seen a ghost.
Her eyes widened in terror, and her body began trembling uncontrollably like a withered leaf swaying in the wind. Panic seized her completely.
The others at the gathering were drawn to the sudden commotion. They stopped whatever they were doing, and the tense atmosphere instantly reached its breaking point, like the stillness before a storm.
“You…” Miss Sun tried to speak, only to find that her throat seemed blocked by something. No matter how hard she tried, not a sound emerged. All she could do was watch helplessly as Gu Liuyun advanced toward her.
A bloodthirsty, icy smile curled across Gu Liuyun’s lips. He seemed like Death himself descending upon the world, making everyone present shudder with fear.
Gu Liuyun moved with the speed of a hunting leopard. In the blink of an eye, he was already upon Miss Sun.
She was so terrified that her face lost all color. Her delicate features were now filled with horror, as though she had come face-to-face with some monstrous beast.
She stumbled backward again and again, her high heels striking the ground with a frantic clatter that mingled with her trembling pleas, making her look utterly wretched.
“Don’t… don’t come any closer!”
Her voice was choked with sobs, all traces of her former arrogance gone.
