Chapter 8: The Cannon Fodder Fiancée (8)
“Mr. Xie?”
Did he immediately turn his back on her after taking the money?
Yun Jin’s quick-witted mind shifted instantly. Seeing his face suddenly darken, she immediately hooked her arm around his and buried her head against his chest.
“It’s husband, I’m sorry, I said it wrong. I won’t dare again.”
Her pleading softened the storm cloud over his expression, bringing back the light.
Xie Yanci snorted coldly. Once the car stopped, he scooped her up in a princess carry and carried her into the villa.
An hour later, after he had thoroughly claimed the woman in his arms, the emotions he had been suppressing finally eased, if only for a moment.
He got up and called the housekeeper over to clean up the aftermath.
Yun Jin dragged her exhausted body to the bathroom and took a shower.
Wrapped in a bathrobe, she checked the time—it was already very late.
She had a strict rule not to stay overnight at someone else’s place until her status with Xie Yanci was confirmed.
The housekeeper was thoughtful and had prepared a dress and underwear for her.
After changing, Yun Jin was about to leave.
Just as she opened the door, she saw Xie Yanci approaching with medicine in hand.
“Where are you going?”
“It’s late. My family is very strict; I have to go home and report to my father that I’m safe.”
“Medicine’s on. I’ll take you back.”
Xie Yanci held her gently in his arms, placing her on the bed.
He took some alcohol and disinfected the bruises on her neck.
Then he knelt down and applied ointment to her wounds.
Throughout the process, Yun Jin felt no discomfort at all.
His meticulous care contrasted sharply with the domineering arrogance he had shown earlier in the car.
So even a ruthless CEO had a tender side.
Perhaps because her gaze was too intense, Xie Yanci ruffled her hair with his unmedicated hand, a rare tenderness shining in his eyes.
“Remember what I told you.”
“Mm-hmm,” Yun Jin nodded eagerly. “Once I go back, I’ll definitely divorce Fu Han.”
That was for the best.
He didn’t want the woman he favored to have any lingering thoughts about another man.
“I’m giving you half a month to cut ties with Fu Han completely. If I find out you’re still in contact with him, I’ll break your legs.”
Yun Jin patted her pitiful calves and sighed. “Alright, I promise.”
That was more obedient.
After washing his hands, Xie Yanci held Yun Jin close and kissed her.
“Be good. Once you’re with me, you will get everything you want.”
Yun Jin didn’t take his words seriously.
In her eyes, Xie Yanci had seen all kinds of women; he was probably just indulging in a momentary fancy and would soon forget.
While the novelty lasted, she urged him to drive her home immediately.
Yun Jin arrived home at ten in the evening.
She had just changed her shoes when she heard a commotion from the master bedroom.
Yun Jin’s family lived in a villa; she stayed on the third floor, and her father, Yun Zhongshan, lived on the second.
Curiosity drove her to quietly sneak to the corner of her father’s room to eavesdrop.
Luckily, the door was ajar, allowing her a full view inside.
After enduring a stomachful of resentment at the Fu family, Yun Zhongshan couldn’t vent his anger elsewhere.
Seeing Aunt Li resting in the guest room, he immediately summoned her to his room for a scolding.
“Has your daughter gone mad with longing for men? Why does she have to fight with Ah Jin over a man? Does Fu Han belong to a mere housekeeper’s daughter to be coveted by her?”
Housekeeper.
So in Yun Zhongshan’s mind, she was still just a housekeeper, despite working diligently in the Yun household for seven years.
Li’s anger flared. “What can I do if Fu Han likes Murong? Can I keep him away from my daughter?”
“Ah Jin can’t even hold onto her own man. In my opinion, that’s her problem. If she can’t secure a man’s heart, what’s the use in blaming Murong? It would be better if Murong married Fu Han instead of Ah Jin.”
Smack.
Yun Zhongshan slapped Aunt Li.
“What nonsense are you spouting? What status does Murong have, and what about my daughter’s status? The old master Fu specifically named Ah Jin, and besides, Ah Jin and Fu Han were betrothed as children. No one can break that.”
“I think I’ve been too indulgent with you and your daughter, which gave you both ideas you shouldn’t have.”
“Right now, you get back to your room and reflect seriously. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being harsh.”
After hearing this bombshell, Yun Jin quickly slipped back to her room.
Oh my, how thrilling.
From the conversation between Yun Zhongshan and Aunt Li, Yun Jin learned a lot.
Aunt Li was ambitious and had long wanted her daughter to marry Fu Han.
She, a housekeeper in the Yun household for seven years, failed to recognize her own status and aspired to leap to the top.
Her way up wasn’t limited to marrying Yun Zhongshan or having her daughter marry into a wealthy family.
From Yun Zhongshan’s tone, he looked down on Aunt Li.
So Aunt Li was merely an insignificant mistress in Yun Zhongshan’s eyes?
Did this have anything to do with the death of Yun Jin’s original mother?
Without concrete evidence, Yun Jin dared not jump to conclusions.
She took out her phone and ordered several pinhole cameras online.
Once they arrived, she planned to install them in every corner of the house, hoping to gather some reliable and useful clues.
It was already very late when Yun Jin was about to tidy up and go to sleep.
Seeing the items related to Fu Han on the table gave her a headache.
Since she was severing ties, it had to be thorough.
She sent Fu Han a breakup message on WeChat, then blocked both him and Murong’s alternate account.
Next, she stuffed all the items related to Fu Han—big and small—into a wooden box.
After an hour, everything was finally cleaned out.
She left the trash at the door, coincidentally as Aunt Li was outside wandering with a troubled look.
Aunt Li noticed the trash and became curious.
“Ah Jin, what are you doing?”
“Oh, Aunt Li,” Yun Jin smiled faintly. “Fu Han and I have broken up. I don’t want any of the gifts he gave me. If you have time, would you mind helping me take out the trash?”
“Ah Jin, you must be speaking in anger. You care so much about Fu Han…”
Aunt Li glanced sideways and fell silent when she spotted a bracelet among the trash.
This star-shaped bracelet was a gift Fu Han gave on their one-year anniversary.
Aunt Li remembered it well because of Murong.
Her daughter had followed Yun Jin to their date spot and watched Fu Han give Yun Jin this expensive star bracelet.
Later, out of jealousy, Murong secretly stole it from Yun Jin’s jewelry box and wore it.
After Aunt Li scolded her, Murong reluctantly returned the bracelet.
Now, seeing Yun Jin had thrown away such a precious item, it was clear she really didn’t want to reconcile with Fu Han.
Agreeing with Yun Jin’s words, Aunt Li took out her phone, snapped a photo, and sent it to Murong.
“Murong, Yun Jin and Fu Han have broken up.
You better step up and capture Fu Han’s heart so he can never leave you. Then, when you marry into a wealthy family, our family will have hope.”
