Chapter 13: The Cannon Fodder Fiancée (13)
“Are you crazy?”
Fu Han pulled a napkin from the table and wiped his face. Then, holding the napkin, he carefully wiped the water stains from Su Murong’s face.
Seeing Su Murong’s meticulously done makeup ruined and disheveled by an inexplicable splash of water, combined with the humiliation Yun Jian had suffered today, Fu Han finally lost control.
With a dark expression, he said, “You will apologize to Rongrong immediately.”
“I won’t.”
This whole incident was clearly Su Murong’s deliberate provocation, and she was the one who initiated the water splash. From beginning to end, Yun Jian bore no fault.
But Fu Han’s eyes seemed blind, only seeing the preconceptions, blindly condemning Yun Jian.
A surge of frustration welled up inside Yun Jian. She took several deep breaths but couldn’t swallow the bitterness.
“Fu Han, if your eyes don’t work, you might as well donate them. I won’t apologize for something I didn’t do. If you don’t believe me, check the surveillance footage. See if I splashed her.”
Su Murong’s expression changed, then she grasped Fu Han’s hand, sobbing softly, “I was wrong in this matter. It’s only right that Jian vents her anger on me. Han, please don’t take it out on Jian.”
“She splashed water on you, and you still speak for her? Rongrong, you’re far too kind.”
Fu Han stood in front of Su Murong and said sternly, “Yun Jian, let me be frank. No matter what you do or what tricks you use, I will never like you. Your malicious behavior only makes me hate you more.”
“Who’s barking like a dog over there?”
Song Xiao stormed over, clutching her bag with fury.
Not long ago, she had called Yun Jian. Upon hearing Jian was dining at a couple’s restaurant, she wanted to catch her off guard and see who she was meeting.
She didn’t see the date, but she saw a despicable man and a shameless woman pointing fingers at the legitimate wife, with the scumbag defending the mistress and trying to lecture the wife.
Drawing closer, she realized that the wife was none other than her dear friend, Yun Jian.
Song Xiao was furious and couldn’t hold back. She cursed loudly, “Fu Han, you despicable man. How dare you argue with Yun Jian? Who do you think you are to her?”
“I’m her man.”
“What man? The scumbag who abandoned his wife at the wedding to meet his mistress?”
Protecting Yun Jian, Song Xiao spat directly at Fu Han.
“I’ve never seen such a disgusting creature. My Jian has had the worst luck in eight lifetimes, falling for you. If you think Jian bullied Su Murong, why don’t you check the surveillance for the truth?”
Fu Han was stunned by Song Xiao’s tirade and was about to respond when Su Murong pleaded, “I know I’m wrong in this. I...”
“Shut up! The most disgusting one here is you. Jian’s family paid for your university, let you live in the same villa, even treated you like a lady. What have you done in return? Stealing her things, spending her money, sleeping with her man.
How can you be so heartless? Does your family know?
They must, otherwise why would they tolerate such despicable deeds?
Heavens, why didn’t you strike more lightning on the wedding day and kill those two scumbags?”
“Girl, you’re speaking my mind.”
Tears of gratitude welled up in Yun Jian’s eyes as she patted Song Xiao’s back. “Enough, don’t get angry. It’s not worth it for them.”
“Exactly.” Song Xiao let out a sigh of relief. “Jian, let’s just say we were blind and chose the wrong man. Learn from this. Dump the scumbag and the shameless woman. I’ll find you a good one.”
As she took Yun Jian’s arm to leave, Fu Han objected, “Stop. Explain yourself. What do you think you’re doing?”
“To introduce a man to my good sister.” Song Xiao was relentless.
Fu Han’s face darkened. “I won’t allow it. Yun Jian is my wife; you can’t corrupt her.”
No wonder Yun Jian had been so rude to him these past days—she was under Song Xiao’s influence.
Once this passes, he would talk to Yun Jian seriously and keep her away from that gossip.
“I’m having dinner with Jian. Why are you causing trouble? Leave now or don’t blame me for being ruthless.”
“You three eating together, what kind of ‘burning winter’ is this?” Song Xiao laughed angrily.
“Fu Han, are you still living in the Qing Dynasty? How old are you still dreaming of multiple wives? Shameless!”
“Shut up! One more word, and your family’s business...”
Fu Han’s tone was threatening, and Song Xiao understood.
The Song family, like the Yun family, was a business partner of the Fu family.
She couldn’t let her momentary anger bring trouble to her family.
A trace of apology appeared in her eyes as she looked at Yun Jian. “Jian—”
“Enough. I understand.”
Yun Jian glanced sideways and caught Su Murong’s smug look. She smiled. “Waiter.”
The waiter promptly came over and asked, “Miss, may I help you?”
Pointing to the camera above, Yun Jian said, “I want to check the surveillance footage.”
Su Murong’s face instantly turned pale, regret flashing in her eyes. “No.”
“No what?” Yun Jian pretended not to understand. “After suffering such a grievance, wouldn’t you want the footage to be seen?”
“Let’s just drop it. Jian, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t. Don’t use that manipulative act on me—I have no patience for it.”
Yun Jian glanced at Fu Han. “Sometimes what you see isn’t the truth. Let’s watch the footage; the truth will come out. Let’s go.”
The four of them entered the surveillance room, and the waiter played the footage from the time of the incident.
Fu Han’s face darkened as he saw that Su Murong had orchestrated the whole scene herself.
He hadn’t expected the woman he was defending so wholeheartedly to be so two-faced.
“Rongrong, why did you set up Jian?”
“It’s not as you see. Jian said sorry to me first. I lost control, that’s why it happened. It was unintentional, Han, please believe me.”
The waiter, who had been watching the drama unfold, spoke up fairly.
“Bro, never blindly trust a woman’s one-sided story.”
Another bystander chimed in, “Yeah, we thought the legitimate wife was being bullied by the mistress, but the story flipped.”
“The wife suffered so much, and even her best friend was threatened by the scumbag. Without the footage proving her innocence, the mistress would have been even more arrogant.”
“Exactly. Strange things happen every year, but this year is especially crazy. The mistress has nothing to say now.”
Seeing the reality turn against her, Su Murong rolled her eyes and fainted.
Fu Han was startled and caught Su Murong as she swayed. Ignoring the surrounding sneers, he picked her up and tried to leave.
“Wait.” Song Xiao sneered. “Fu Han, are you going to abandon Jian again for Su Murong?”
Fu Han’s steps faltered.
He turned back and looked at Yun Jian with a hint of apology. “Sorry, Rongrong, she’s unwell, I...”
